Who is Stengel Oils:

We are a small family operation in the NE corner of South Dakota. Cal Stengel went to college at South Dakota State University and majored in Plant Science. Returning to the family farm and grain condition operation, he join his brothers in their 4 -5 generation of farming.

Early in the 70’s, Cal’s father had expanded his grain condition operation. This was a series of machines that took seed and removed the sticks, stones and weeds from the grain and improved the quality of the seed to 99.99 %. At about this same time Organic became an every increasing market. The demand increased for special operations that could remove all the weed seeds and make the grain presentable for the organic markets.

In 1998, while visiting some friends in western Washington state, Cal met with other business contacts and was offered a chance to work with them in pressing flax seed. Cal accepted the opportunity and moved his family to the North West corner of the US. While working with flax and other seeds, Cal learned a great deal about the pressing operations. After year, Cal took the opportunity to try other pursuits and spent several years in the fourth corner of the US.

In 2005, Cal saw an opportunity to start this business of crushing seed for oil. Moving back to Milbank, SD, Cal and his family, started Stengel Oils and having been going with it since then.
